summary

Anti-Trafficking Technology Platform. Wetaase is a free mobile and web helpline on safe migration for Ugandans

Wetaase is an open data platform made up of a mobile and web helpline to sensitise against trafficking red flags and providing linkages to resources on human trafficking in Uganda.  All the data retrieved is uploaded to a dashboard that is used to monitor domestic and transnational trafficking.

Wetaase, which means ‘save me’, aims to reduce trafficking among high risk groups especially women and girls, provide access to aftercare and legal services as well as develop a system of data collection, monitoring, sensitisation and advocacy. Before Wetasse, there wasn’t a human trafficking web and voice helpline in Uganda. The platform focuses on open data and new forms of technology with a focus on low literacy groups and local languages; It features a rich website, messenger chatbot and toll-free line offering help and information in 7 different languages including English, Luganda, Runyankore, Kiswahili, Juba Arabic, Lugbara and French.
