This Privacy Policy explains what kind of private data we collect from our clients; why we collect such information; how we share, transfer, and secure private data; and your privacy rights.
What Private Data Do We Collect?
Pollicy is a civic technology organization focused on using technology and data to improve public service delivery in Uganda. We are a group of technologists, data scientists, creatives, and academics looking to innovate government service delivery across Africa. We work with governments, civil society, NGOs, and the private sector to re-design services around citizen needs and demands. In order to carry out our mission and with express written consent, we collect the following data from individuals and organizations: For all our events, we collect information through third-party tools such as Google Forms, Eventbrite, etc for organizational purposes. We run data collection projects and collect various forms of data. This Privacy Policy outlines our policy in relation to the collection, use, and protection of your Data to provide you with a wonderful experience collaborating, working, or partnering with us. From time to time, we may update our Privacy Policy to reflect current changes in our policy and the law. When we do so, we will notify you by posting it on our website or our social media channels for your information and reference.
Use of Information
Pollicy Organisation does not sell, rent, or lease your personal data nor do we buy/purchase data from other sources under any circumstances. We will not use whatever personal information that you provide to us for something that would jeopardize our integrity and also your respect & trust in us. For whatever purpose you provide your data for, so will be it. In the future when you opt to receive certain communications from us (such as newsletters or action alerts), we will use the information you provide on the sign-up form to send you these communications. It will be purely upon your consent that we shall send any form of communication your way and it will be entirely up to you to opt-out of the process of receiving these materials. When carrying out surveys or petitions, we only require minimal information such as an email address, your name and location, etc. Beyond that, it is up to you to decide exactly how much information to submit. We do not provide your full name, email address, or other identifying information to third parties including to the media or decision-makers (such as those who are the targets of particular campaigns). We provide compilations of petition numbers to third parties but we will never disclose your personal identity. When we conduct research, all data collected is highly confidential and is treated that way thus only authorized personnel is allowed access to whatever data we pose.
Third-Party Service Providers
Pollicy uses third-party service providers for some services on our website and also in our work. We own and have control over the information contained on contracted accounts (including the personal information you provide). However, each third-party provider has its own privacy policy that is linked below. Although we have carefully vetted the policies of our service providers and believe that they provide adequate protection for our users, they are not under our control and may change at short notice. Social Media
Pollicy heavily relies on social media and social networking services to advance our work and these social media applications are not in our full ownership but rather of third-party service providers. This means that we are bound by the privacy policies of these very third-party service providers. We use mainly Twitter and Facebook to disseminate our information and also conduct our work and for everyone that is able to visit these pages, he or she has consented to the Twitter and Facebook Privacy Policy before use. The Pollicy Facebook page is administered by Facebook and is accessible by Facebook users who already have consented to Facebook’s Privacy Policy. We do not store information on our followers nor process any information beyond Facebook. To make our work easily consumable and neat, we employ the use of link shorteners that are provided by Twitter or Bitly. The “URL Shortening” services help convert long URLs into shorter URLs that direct users to other websites or our blog. For example, If you click on a shortened URL, it will most likely redirect you to a third-party website that contains a file or document relating to the Tweet, and the third-party website will have its own privacy practices that may include trying to place a cookie and/or web-bug on your computer, collecting your IP address and other forms of tracking.
The Pollicy Blog
We host all our blogs on Medium, an independent platform and it’s from there that we are able to share various interesting topics around what we do and what we identify with. Because we simply own an account with Medium, we don’t collect any data from the platform. Medium has its own privacy policies for users. You may be required to log in your information to access our content but we don’t own or collect that information. In order to give you the best possible experience using Medium, they(Medium) collect information from your interactions with our network. Some of this information, you actively tell us (such as your email address, which we use to track your account or communicate with you). Other information, we collect based on actions you take while using Medium, such as what pages you access and your interactions with our product features (like highlights, follows, and applause).
