We’re hiring — Temporary Web/Data developer

Pollicy is looking for a talented and experienced Web/Python developer to support the team temporarily (6 to 8 weeks January to February) in building a web platform. You will work closely with Pollicy’s in-house Data Scientist to build and publish a dashboard/web platform for one of their projects and as such prior experience building and deploying web apps or dashboards is a MUST.

Tasks will include:

  1. Designing a creative web app/dashboard with a brief description of the project, objectives, and key metrics,
  2. Embedding interactive plots obtained from dashboard or visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  3. Creating a section on the web app/dashboard dedicated to our machine learning model with a text input and text output box (As well as a data upload and data download sections) for interaction with the ML model using HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. 
  4. Building the backend linking to this model with a Python framework called ‘Flask’ or similar.
  5. Deploying this web app/dashboard on Heroku or similar so it becomes publicly available and can be accessed via a custom Web URL.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Who should apply?

We are looking for mid-career professionals interested in working on multi-national research projects tied to civic technology issues pertinent to sub-Saharan Africa specifically in East Africa.

You must have:

  1. At least an undergraduate degree
  2. Some experience building web pages/apps.
  3. Front-end skills such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc
  4. Backend skills for Python-based data products.
  5. An open mind and desire to try out new things. We are open to creative ideas that produce better results.
  6. Willingness to teach and share knowledge with others.
  7. Competency in Microsoft and Google applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook, or working with tools such as Slack.
  8. Possess strong writing and communication skills
