About Pollicy
Pollicy is an award-winning East African feminist civic technology collective. Our work and research spans across the use and implementation of data and technology to engineer social change. In the recent past, we have researched ways through which Africans can take back control of their data and reimagine new ways of tech ownership.
About the Role
Reporting to the Data Products Lead, your role as Data Products Assistant is to drive innovation by contributing to the ideation, development, and refinement of impactful data products that address real-world challenges. In this role, you will collaborate with a dynamic team to analyse data, generate insights, and play a pivotal role in the creation of cutting-edge solutions.
You will be accountable for producing analytics solutions that unlock business insight and enable impactful decisions driving immediate value. The initiation of the role is Create Product roadmap with short-term and longer-term milestones aligned with Pollicy strategy of data utilisation through an information-centric approach and craft better life experiences by harnessing improved data; define project organization’s methodology (internal vs outsourced, agile vs waterfall).
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
As a Data Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our data-driven initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
Data Product Support:
- Working with our Data Products Lead to identify, assess, and implement new innovative data products and tools
- Contributing to ongoing projects such as consultancies or in-house projects that require data support. You should therefore have foundational knowledge of data science and how it can be applied to address real-world problems.
Data Analysis:
- Conduct data analysis to derive valuable insights, trends, and patterns to inform decision-making.
- You should therefore have an excellent understanding of statistical techniques or at least a deep understanding of descriptive statistics
Community support:
- Work with our Engagement Lead in Uganda or Project Coordinators in various countries to coordinate meetups, workshops, and events related to data and
analytics.
- Where necessary, assist in organising and conducting training sessions either physically or virtually, helping others enhance their data skills.
- Where necessary represent Pollicy at events, conferences, and seminars, sharing insights and expertise in the field of data.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
- Strong technical skills such as Deep learning, NLP, Information Retrieval, Geospatial
Analysis, etc
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Willingness to share knowledge with others.
