We are currently looking for a visionary Director of Research (DoR) to manage our global research activities. This role will be 50% research management focused and 50% strategy and growth focused. The DoR will work closely with our Executive Director and our Research team to coordinate our different research projects, conceptualize new research projects and introduce new research techniques as well as develop strategic plans and drive growth.

Ideal candidates are ambitious and performance-oriented with exceptional people skills. The Director of Research will oversee and supervise our numerous research projects with expert knowledge of a broad variety of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. This involves designing research projects, implementing research methodologies, quality assurance of data collected, editing reports, working with designers for report outputs, dissemination of research work, coordinating with partners on activities and launches etc.
SALARY RANGE: $3,250-3,500/Month plus benefits

1. Within +3 hours or -3 hours of East African Time zone.
2. You must have at least 10 years of research experience
3. You must identify as a feminist researcher
4. You must be proficient and have prior experience in quantitative/qualitative research methodologies.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience as Director of Research, Research Manager, Researcher or similar position.

Knowledge of different research methodologies.

Substantial work experience in relevant sectors and context, ideally in an international not for profit organization, namely working on digital platforms, data, technology, ICTs etc.

Experience of managing or supporting the delivery of large multi-year, multi-country grant funded programmes.

Substantial experience and knowledge in managing a remote team, mentorship and contributing to the growth of junior staff.

Working knowledge of data analysis, visualisation and protection.

Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.

Team player.

Good time-management skills.

Great interpersonal and communication skills.

Degree agnostic.

English Fluency is required, French is a plus!

Additional Information

Areas of Responsibility

1. Research and Project Management

Develop research plans in accordance with our Strategic Plan using various techniques such as Google searches, academic articles, phone interviews, utilizing statistical packages, related to the project(s) at hand.

Support the Research Team to deliver a wide range of social research techniques including fieldwork such as telephone and in-person interviews, literature reviews,
focus groups and data analysis.

Supervise training on research topics and findings for staff and project clients.

Provide training and technical assistance to staff, fellows and partners on how to conduct research and manage their data.

Promote forums which facilitate collaboration, learning and action as a result of research topics and finding among key actors.

Conduct quality assurance on the collection, storage and analysis of data for evaluations and studies, as needed.

2. Finance and Administration

Work with the finance team in the development of financial  and budgetary plans regarding research projects.

Work closely with the financial personnel and partner organizations, clients and donors.

Ensure projects run on time and within budget. Review project accountabilities and submit required documentation to partners or donors.

3. People Management

Identify new staffing needs for the research team. Together with the Executive Director and HR board, write job descriptions, schedule interviews and assist in
selection of candidates for research projects.

Support both the professional and personal development of research staff.

4. Strategy and Business Development

Liaise with the Executive Director, senior leadership and the board to develop and implement a research strategy as well as business development and fundraising strategy and processes.

Research, analyse and maintain regular register of donor calls for funding applications including tenders, expressions of interest and requests for proposals.
Advise on potential partnerships with other organisations and agencies and identify specific opportunities.

Conduct partner and competitor analysis, negotiate teaming agreements, and lead or participate directly in large value bids developed by consortia.

Provide guidance and support to development of proactive concepts, converting ideas into impactful proposals and actively participate in identifying sources of support for such proposals.
