Co-creating a Digital Support Chatbot for TFGBV Survivors in Tanzania & Cote d’Ivoire
Women in politics (WIPs) and women human rights defenders (WHRDs) in Tanzania and Côte d’Ivoire increasingly face technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), including online harassment, surveillance, image-based abuse, and gendered disinformation. This project aimed at responding to a critical gap in current support mechanisms: the lack of survivor-centred, technology-enabled tools that provide immediate emotional and psychosocial support when digital harm occurs. Existing interventions largely focus on offline GBV or emphasize reporting and referrals, offering limited support for survivors dealing with the emotional impact of online abuse and gendered disinformation. As a result, many women are left without safe, private spaces to process harm, regain clarity, and decide if and how to seek further support.
