Pollicy is seeking an experienced and visionary feminist Executive Director to lead our team and drive the company's growth in Uganda, Africa and across the world. The Executive Director oversees all operations, functions and activities including but not limited to Research Projects, Programs Management, Strategic Planning, Human Resource Management, Finance and Grant Management and General Administration. The Executive Director will be responsible for executing the company's strategic direction, overseeing and optimizing day-to-day operations, and managing a team of very talented professionals. 

Location: Uganda, preferred. East Africa accepted.

 About Pollicy:

Pollicy is an award-winning East African feminist civic technology collective. Our work and research spans across the use and implementation of data and technology to engineer social change. In the recent past, we have researched ways through which Africans can take back control of their data and reimagine new ways of tech ownership.

Job Summary:

Pollicy is seeking an experienced and visionary feminist Executive Director to lead our team and drive the company’s growth in Uganda, Africa and across the world. The Executive Director oversees all operations, functions and activities including but not limited to Research Projects, Programs Management, Strategic Planning, Human Resource Management, Finance and Grant Management and General Administration. The Executive Director will be responsible for executing the company’s strategic direction, overseeing and optimizing day-to-day operations, and managing a team of very talented professionals. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technology-focused research and a proven track record of success in managing teams and driving growth. We are looking for a leader who is committed to our feminist values of equity, diversity and inclusion, and who can bring fresh ideas and perspectives to advance our mission and vision. 

Key Responsibilities:

STRATEGY AND GROWTH

  • Develop and execute the organization’s strategic plan in alignment with the it’s mission and vision.
  • Together with the Directors of Research and Programs, supervise research projects and programmatic initiatives, ensuring quality and timely delivery of results to advance data literacy, digital rights and inclusion in Africa.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders to advance our work and impact.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for growth and expansion of the organization’s offerings, including overseeing resource mobilization and fundraising.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and other forums, online and in-person.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in technology research to ensure that our work remains relevant and impactful.

HUMAN RESOURCE

  • Grow and manage a high-performing team of researchers, program managers and other talented professionals.
  • Identify and implement staffing requirements for efficient operations, maintaining a strong culture and work environment that attracts and retains staff while driving the organization’s mission.
  • Monitor company operations and ensure employees and business practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Conduct performance reviews for all members of the team and provide constructive feedback and coaching. 
  • Develop and promote the organization’s culture and values among all staff members, including those in remote teams and the physical team in Kampala with a flexible working structure that includes a four-day work week (Monday to Thursday).

FINANCE AND LEGAL

  • Together with the Director of Finance, oversee the company’s finances and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including tax compliance, audits, and up-to-date registrations. 
  • Liaise with the Board of Directors on a regular basis to ensure alignment of our work with our mission and vision, and to provide regular updates on organizational performance.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, research methods, sociology, communications or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in research or program management, with at least 5 years in a senior management role
  • Strong feminist leadership skills, with a proven track record of managing teams and driving growth in a feminist organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and inspire a diverse and remote working team
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to make decisions based on rapidly changing trends and priorities, and to adapt to the needs of the organization and its stakeholders
  • Deep knowledge of the African technology landscape and regulatory environment, and a commitment to advancing data literacy digital rights and inclusion in Africa
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others across cultures and timezones, and to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and financial resources
